Fact 2: Meaning of the Djed: To the ancient Egyptians the Djed symbolized stability, endurance and strength, and for protection from enemies. Fact 3: The Djed amulet also signified that all doors, or opportunities, might be open both in this life and the next. Fact 6: According to the instructions in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Djed amulet should be made of gold set in sycamore wood, which had been steeped in the water of Ankham flowers (believed to be the lotus). The amulet was placed near the spines of mummified bodies on the day of interment, to protect him on his perilous journey through the underworld.
