Ancient Egyptian Double Plume Feathers Talisman Ancient Egypt - The Double Plume Feathers Fact Sheet Fact 1 on the Double Plume: The Double Plume Feathers was worn as a protective talisman by both the living and the deceased. Fact 2 on the Double Plume: Meaning of the Double Plume Feathers: To the ancient Egyptians the Double Plume Feathers are strongly associated with the headdress worn by the god Osiris, called the Atef Crown of Egypt. The Two Feathers stood for divine law. Fact 3 on the Double Plume: The ostrich was symbol of creation and light. The feathers are from the ostrich which are characteristically depicted in Ancient Egyptian Artwith a curled top. The double feathers also feature in depictions of the god Amun (the Amun crown). The plume, or feather of a falcon is depicted with a rounded top with a stem that runs down the center. Fact 4 on the Double Plume: The ancient Egyptian artisans who made the amulets or talismans depicting the curled ostrich feathers often used dark colored stones such as obsidian and basalt. Obsidian is a type of black glass produced by volcanoes. The colors of basalts are very dark green to black. The dark blue lapis lazuli was also used when depicting feathers.
