Fact 2 on 28th Dynasty: The death of the Persian King Darius II prompted a revolt was led by Amyrtaeus, a prince of Sais and the grandson of King Psamtik III. Fact 3 on 28th Dynasty: His grandfather Psamtik III had confronted the First Persian invasion of ancient Egypt that was led by King Cambyses of Persia, during the time of the 26th Dynasty of Saite kings. Fact 4 on 28th Dynasty: The history of the line of Saite kings originally started in the 24th dynasty consisting of just 2 pharaohs, Tefnakht and Bakenranef. They ruled from the city of Sais in the western part of the Nile Delta in Lower Egypt and had fought against the invasion of the Nubians - see map below. Fact 5 on 28th Dynasty: Amyrtaeus was therefore a proud descendent of a brave line of Saite kings and attracted considerable loyalty from many areas of ancient Egypt, particularly in Lower Egypt. Fact 6 on 28th Dynasty: The much hated Persians were known for their cruelty and also for the high taxes they levied on the people of Egypt. The death of the Persian King Darius II prompted a revolt led by Amyrtaeus. The successful rebellion brought Egypt back its independence bur Amyrtaeus would be the only king of the 28th Dynasty. Fact 7 on 28th Dynasty: The king formed an alliance with the Arabians against the Phoenicians (who had a power base in Lebanon that bordered Syria) as a strategic and political move to prevent another invasion of the Persians. Fact 8 on 28th Dynasty: The reign of Amyrtaeus lasted for five years. There is scant information about his decline but he apparently transgressed the law, and was judged as a violator of the laws of Egypt, was stopped performing the functions of the king and consequently his son was not allowed to succeed him. Fact 9 on 28th Dynasty: We can only hypothesize on his transgressions. The king was subject to some weighty responsibilities. He was clearly making efforts to protect the land from enemies. Perhaps he was not seen to be satisfying the gods of Egypt by making appropriate offerings. Perhaps he transgressed the the Spirit of Ma'at. Justice in Egypt was applied in the Spirit of Ma'at using basic principles of truth, morality and fairness according to ancient 'Wisdom Texts'. Failure to perform such tasks would be viewed as extremely serious and sacrilegious resulting in dire consequences for Egypt and the king who was to blame. Fact 10 on 28th Dynasty: A rebellion against the king was initiated by Nepherites a powerful governor of Mendes (see map below). The rebels fought in open warfare against Amyrtaeus who was eventually captured, dethroned and publicly executed at Memphis. Fact 11 on 28th Dynasty: Nepherites claimed the throne of Egypt and founded the 29th dynasty.
